Jessica Rajko, interdisciplinary artist and assistant professor at Schools of Film, Dance and Theatre, Arizona State University, presents: “Touching Big Data”.
Our traditional, ‘ocularcentric’ methods of visualizing big data allow researchers to mine information, decode patterns, and deconstruct complex networks. Aiming to make data palpable, tangible, and tactile through the integration of somatic informed dance practices, human-computer interaction (HCI) design methods, and digital humanities scholarship, Rajko’s research attempts to create somatic approaches to big data haptification. In this lecture/demonstration, she will discuss her recent creative and artistic research that brings together somatics and data representation.
