Residence Life

Your room is more than just a place to sleep and study; it's a place to live and learn. Davidson College promotes respect and responsibility among individuals in our residential community and encourages students to learn from one another to become model citizens. With a four-year residency requirement, more than 97 percent of students live on campus.

Studies demonstrate that students who live in campus housing have higher graduation rates, higher GPAs and report greater satisfaction with their collegiate experience. The Residence Life staff members work hard to ensure a safe, comfortable living experience while enhancing academic performance and social development.

Housing for First-Year Students

Incoming first-year students are paired together and placed in a residence hall by Residence Life. All residence hall rooms assigned to first-year students are double-rooms, so every incoming student will have a roommate. At the beginning of spring semester, students will be able to choose their roommate and select housing through the lottery process for their sophomore year.

Housing Lottery for Current Students

Housing for continuing students is done through a lottery process, a long-standing tradition. The lottery is utilized for the selection/assignment of residential rooms and apartments for the following year. The lottery process is based on seniority, meaning seniors are the first to select housing each year.

Housing Options and Room Rates

We offer new and current students a variety of living styles that includes 12 traditional residence halls and seven on-campus apartment buildings.
